October 2010 - Breast Cancer Awareness Month

About BCA

This is a online diary from Susan, who in her 40’s was diagnosed with breast cancer. Living every woman’s nightmare I can recall reading an article in the Sunday press, that stated on average 1 in 9 women are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Living in Spain, I had to decide where my treatment would take place. Although my first thought was to shut mysef away and pretend this is not happening. I can confess that’s the worst thing you can do. I have since learnt that this is a common feeling amongst us and although every bone in your body will say keep it to yourself, don’t! Speak to me directly by using the contact form below and drop me a mail.

You may not be ready to tell your family or loved ones yet, so if I can be that half way house before you make the BIG step then I’ll gladly help. Your email will remain strictly confidential and I’ll answer your questions within 24 hours.

For me the first form of help came in the shape of other women who wrote about their experiences online, using blogs, forums and websites. I knew at that point I was not alone and began to appreciate the power of the pen. Since your reading these pages, today begins a journal that tracks my journey, the highs, the lows and the emotions that will fill you up each day. To say I know how you feel, is an understatement, I live it each day.

In closing, reading other women’s experiences gave me tremendous strength, fighting spirit and made me realize that nothing is insurmountable. If this blog helps only one woman through her turmoil, the lows, the guilt, the ‘why me’ then I have achieved what I set out to do.

I welcome all comments from all parties, so please speak freely and frankly on any post and I promise to continue posting experience by experience, every step of the way. Although life may never be the same, together we can beat this.

If you wish to e-mail me personally use the contact form below, I check my mails daily and will respond within 24 hours.
